Invisible Forces That's Just Weird!

Invisible Forces
How can a spaceship keep circling Earth without falling out of orbit or floating away? We can’t see things like gravity, magnetism, or air but we know they are there by the effects they have on Earth and in space. Science takes center stage as campers investigate the fascinating forces that are all around us ... even though we can’t see them!

That's Just Weird!
Have you ever seen a balloon filled with helium that seems to defy gravity? Helium was discovered on the sun before it was found here on Earth! Venus spins “backwards” compared to Earth and Pluto is smaller that the Earths moon. Aspiring astronauts will explore the unique, funny and odd features and forces of places in space.

Space Pioneers
If you were a space pioneer, what would you need to know to set up a base camp on Mars or a distant moon like Triton, Titan or Europa? Could you grow food in the soil and breathe without a spacesuit? Explore ideas for future space colonization during this week of fun – and messy! – chemistry experiments.

It's All Relative

How vast is the universe in relation to the matter it contains? Scientists believe that if the universe was a building 20 miles long, 20 miles wide, and 20 miles high, all the matter it contains would be the size of one grain of sand! Campers will create models to explore themes of distance, size and speed to grasp the size and scale of our mighty universe.

Let's Get Physic-al

What happens when an astronaut opens a bag of M&M'S in a spaceship? Would the same thing happen if they were outside the spaceship? We can simulate space experiments with objects like bouncing balls, rolling chairs, and spinning turntables. Campers will help create games to play in “space” that demonstrate the forces of physics.

Life in a Space Station

Have you ever wondered how astronauts eat, sleep, work and play in microgravity? Living in an environment with almost no gravity creates special challenges for everyday activities. During the week, campers will design, construct and spend time in their own space modules! See how different life in space is compared to living on planet Earth.

*APOLLO*
Entering 6th - 8th Grade

Each Cosmic Scientific Investigative camp (or CSI) runs full days, from 9am-4pm, for one week only and features hands-on activities that explore new concepts and expands the minds of even the most skeptical young scientists. $250 per week. Maximum enrollment is 25 children/session. Campers must bring a sack lunch. Single days and half-days are not offered.

June 20-24 Hoax-Busters!
June 27-July 1 Physics Matters
July 11-15 Hoax-Busters!
July 18-22 Physics Matters

Hoax-Busters!
Have you heard about the mysterious lights that once flew over Phoenix or that 6% of the population believes the moon landing was staged? Each day, delve into a new topic and explore the science behind the myth. Campers will apply critical thinking skills to dubious claims about Earth and space and will try to separate fact from fiction.

Physics Matters
If you tried to hit a ball with a tennis racquet in microgravity, which would go farther, the ball – or you? Campers will spend the week exploring physics using themselves as part of the experiments! See how a baseball on Earth follows the same laws of physics as a planet in orbit and learn how you can control the laws of motion.
